SOW – “Sowing Seeds of Care”

The SOW “Students of Worth” fund is an initiative to generate funds to provide financial assistance to students which will give them the opportunity to complete a qualification.

All Potchefstroom Academy and SAAHST qualifications are focused on training entrepreneurs and offers graduates the opportunity to be self-sufficient and to establish essential micro enterprises – in service of the country and its people.

SOW – “Sowing Seeds of Care”

The SOW Committee consists of Heads of Department of the Academy and is governed by the Directors of SOW. The SOW fund’s existence is entirely dependent on donations, sponsors and fundraising projects including funds raised through the Student Council and debutants. The SOW fund provides financial assistance to students of merit who, due to financial circumstances cannot register for a qualification or are unable to proceed and complete their studies. The costs of their studies, tuition, and in some cases accommodation and even day-to-day living expenses are paid out of the fund in order to provide students the opportunity to receive a well-deserved qualification.

Organizations or individuals can get involved on two levels. The first is by identifying students whom they would like to award bursaries to. The second is by donating funds to the SOW fund. These funds are used as loans or bursaries.

Each student has to undergo a thorough application process which is evaluated by the SOW Committee and a recommendation is made. The SOW Directors decides whether a loan or bursary is granted.

Also note that any contribution to the fund by a donor will qualify for social economic development points when a BBBEE verification is done. This has to specifically state that the contribution was made towards the fees of a black student as defined by the BBBEE codes of good practice. A Section 18A Certificate can be issued as this contribution will qualify as a deductible expense for tax purposes.
